Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Washington Commanders fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Today, we have two questions in the Reacts survey. The questions ask you to address yourself to off-the-field issues that fall into the owner’s bailiwick — the updated uniforms for the ‘26 season and the 2027 NFL Draft scheduled to be held in Washington DC next April.
Uniforms
The team has unambiguously announced that there will be a uniform “reveal” next week, on April 15th.
It is apparently less than a rebranding, and seems to continue along the path that the owners set last year when they (re)introduced the ‘super bowl era’ white jerseys. According to Josh Harris, who spoke about the topic recently, there are some “surprises” still in store for Commanders fans, despite the level of public discourse about the uniform plans already circulating on social media and other platforms.
Here’s much of what Mr. Harris had to say about Washington’s uniform update in his wide-ranging comments:
“The priority is honoring our past and then looking to the future — updating but not forgetting about our heritage — who we are — and honoring that. And we have a bunch of things up our sleeves.
I don’t want to ruin the surprise; we’re going to continue to embrace our past, but then update it. So, stay tuned.”
On the importance of embracing the history of the franchise in relation to the new uniforms:
“I lived through our past. I mean, I’m only 61, so I didn’t go back before the seventies, but I was there for the 70s, 80s and early 90s, right? I lived through how amazing those teams were, and you know, what an impact it had on me.
I know that thousands of our fans, or millions maybe, feel the same way. I think it’s important to go back to that as much as you can. But at the same time, we have a bright future ahead.
[Consider], even, the shape and the look of the [new] stadium. When you look at it, it looks like RFK, but it’s been modernized, right? And so that’s a great example. Our uniforms are similar — I mean, some of the Super Bowl era uniforms.
There are many ways to honor our past and you’re seeing how we treat the athletes and, you know, bringing back [and honoring] some of our past superstars. So, all those things go into [embracing the past].”
For me personally, it’s really important; those were warriors that are part of our heritage and part of who we are. [For example], being there with Darrell Green being there [and] with Art Monk. Showing up in Art Monk’s house and watching his surprise on his face was a moment I’ll remember the rest of my life.
But, you know, obviously there’s been a lot more than that. And we have more up our sleeves there too. There’s an obvious one we need to take care of and we’re working on that. But you know, there’s so many people to honor that we’re going to keep doing it .”
On discussions about logos with the new uniforms:
“You know, we’re committed to the Commander s name [and] we have a lot of surprises up our sleeve this season. I think people will be — [well], I’m excited to see the reaction. I think we’ve got it right and I’m going to leave it [as a] surprise…to allow everyone to enjoy it.”
NFL Draft
Washington DC will be the host city for the NFL draft next year. This is the kind of thing that the NFL simply didn’t allow to happen before the team was sold in 2023. With new ownership has come new opportunities.
Here’s what Josh Harris had to say about that when he spoke to the media at the most recent owner’s meeting:
On being the hosting city for the 2027 NFL Draft:
“That’s a massively important thing for us, and for the DMV, and for the NFL, and for the nation. We’re going to be working really hard to be amazing hosts.
I mean, I visited San Francisco and watched the Super Bowl this year, and how great of a job they did. And you know, we need to do that — the draft is a huge thing. We estimate there’ll be over a million people on the National Mall, and that’s a big deal. There hasn’t been that big a crowd in a long time — in years and years, maybe forever, right?
All eyes will be upon us, and we need to be amazing hosts, make sure everything goes well, work with the city and [I expect it to be a] really exciting time for us .”
Comments & Results
Of course, we invite you to answer the survey questions below, but also feel free to expand on your answers and provide nuance in the comments section. While you are certainly free to simply share which choices you made on the survey questions, the most interesting comments will explain why you answered the way you did. I rely on those comments when discussing the results of the survey when they are posted in a separate article the next few days.
