The 2026 NFL Draft is here and the 32 teams are welcoming another rookie crop that can shake up the league. The draft also means finalizing past trades that included future draft picks. A big one was the November 2025 trade that sent Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Because of the move, the Dolphins have a jump start on the rebuild with a new Day 2 pick.
Original terms of the Jaelan Phillips trade
- Eagles receive: Jaelan Phillips
- Dolphins receive: 2026 third-round pick
What did the Dolphins do with the pick from the Jaelan Phillips trade?
The Dolphins’ pick from the Eagles ended up at No. 87 overall. We will update once the Dolphins make the selection.
How was Jaelan Phillips’ performance for the Eagles in 2025?
After two injury-filled seasons in 2023 and 2024, Phillips was fully healthy in 2025, playing and starting in all 17 games with the Dolphins and Eagles. During his time with the Eagles, he recorded 28 tackles, two sacks and four passes defensed.
Phillips helped the Eagles reach the playoffs, but they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.
Who won the Jaelan Phillips trade?
Considering the fact that the Eagles lost Phillips in free agency to the Carolina Panthers, it looks like the Dolphins are ahead in that race since they now have four years to develop xxx.
However, it’s also possible that the Eagles will get a compensatory pick in 2027 for losing Phillips, so that could help them down the line. Right now, Over the Cap is projecting a third-round selection for the Eagles in 2027. So it didn’t cost them a third-rounder, it cost them a one-year wait and a few draft slots.
The winner of this trade will be determined by how well the draft pick performs.
