After a convincing 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich is headed back to Berlin for the first time since the 2019/20 season when Hansi Flick was in the midst of leading the squad to a treble.
The Bavarians found a way to solve to Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken twice, which was no easy task. Flekken was incredible on the day with eight saves, including six inside the box:
Bayern Munich star Harry Kane scored in the 22nd minute
to put some distance between the Bavarians and Die Werkself, but the game was not an easy for FC Bayern. Bayer Leverkusen fought hard, played tough, and relied on Flekken’s insane effort to keep the contest close.
The game would remain tight and could have been tied, if not for a tremendous second half save by Manuel Neuer on Nathan Tella. It was Neuer’s only save of the game, but it kept Bayer Leverkusen at bay.
In added time, Kim Min-jae sent a beautiful through ball to Leon Goretzka, who slid a great pass to Luis Díaz, who made it 2-0 to clinch the trip to Berlin.
Winning the DFB-Pokal has been a strong focus for the club all season that attention to the tournament has paid off. Bayern Munich will now face the winner of SC Freiburg vs. VfB Stuttgart in the finale.
