Everton have continued their busy start to the summer with the permanent signing of Tyrique George from Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has signed a four-year deal until 2030 following a six-month loan spell at the Toffees last season.
The fee is officially undisclosed, but media reports suggested an initial fee of around £16m with a further £8m in add-ons.
Just one of George’s 11 apperances for Everton was from the start, but the England Under-21 international has done enough to convinced David Moyes to bring
him to Merseyside permanently.
George said:
I’m so happy to sign for Everton. I loved my time here on loan last season, so as soon as I knew it was a possibility to return, that’s always what I wanted.
George said:
“This is a massive club. I’ve seen for myself how passionate the fans are about Everton, how much it means to them – and I want to put on good performances, score goals, and create goals to make them happy.
“The fans and the boys in the changing room made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived in February. It’s a strong group that’s only going to get better.
“I’m excited for what is ahead for us as a group and club.”
George is Everton’s third signing of the summer after Merlin Rohl’s loan from Freiburg was made permanent and Hayden Hackney moved from Middlesbrough.
is a product of the Chelsea academy, joining the London side at the age of eight. He scored six goals in 37 appearances in all competitions, and was part of the squad that won the Club World Cup and Conference League.
He has also been a regular with England youth sides, winning caps from Under-16 through to Under-21 level.
Manager David Moyes said:
We’re pleased to bring Tyrique back on a permanent basis. He made a positive impression during his loan spell with us last season and settled into the group quickly.
“He’s still young and there’s plenty of development ahead of him, but we believe he’s got the attitude and the ability to keep improving. We’re looking forward to working with him again and helping him fulfil his potential.”
The Everton players who have not been on international duty will return to Finch Farm for the start of pre-season.
The first pre-season game is away at Scottish side Dundee on 18 July.
