The Indianapolis Colts have spent significant capital on the quarterback position in recent years, using a first round pick on Anthony Richardson in 2023 and then signing former first round pick Daniel Jones in free agency this spring.
However, with Richardson on injured reserve with a fractured orbital bone and Jones having torn his Achilles tendon in the Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis has found itself on the verge of seeing a once-promising season slip away due to injuries.
This, in order to address the signal caller injuries that have left the team up a creek, the Colts have reportedly changed course, hoping that navigating rivers can potentially avoid disaster.
Specifically, following reports Monday that the Team was set to meet with retired quarterback Philip Rivers, on Tuesday morning NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that the Colts are indeed adding Rivers to their practice squad.
Rivers last played during the 2020 season, and is eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2026. However, his eligibility would reset if he is signed to the Colts active roster, while joining their practice squad does not impact his eligibility.
