The Green Bay Packers have a chance to make history during Thursday night’s home opener against the Atlanta Falcons. The team is currently tied with the Miami Dolphins (1976-1988) for the longest streak of consecutive home opener wins in NFL history. With a win tonight, they could be the only team that’s won 14 home openers in a row, setting a new NFL record.

2025 Home Opener

Spirits were at an all-time high to start the season after the Packers traded for Micah Parsons just before the season started. The team itself had its ups and downs to start, but after a brutal 10-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home, the Packers pulled it together and won 3 division games in a row, 1 against each team, bringing them to a 9-3-1 record. However, disaster struck in Denver when the Packers lost to the Broncos and, even worse, the team lost Micah Parsons for the rest of the season to an ACL tear. The team didn’t win another game last season, and ultimately lost in overtime to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round of the playoffs after leading 21-6 heading into the 4th quarter.
2024 Home Opener

Playoffs: Lost to the Eagles in Wild Card
This season started bumpy with the Packers taking on the Eagles in Brazil Week 1 and Jordan Love injuring his knee at the end of the game, causing him to miss the home opener. Despite their impressive 11-6 record, the Packers finished 3rd in a very competitive division and snuck into the playoffs as the 7th seed and clinched a playoff seed after their Week 16 34-0 shutout win vs. the Saints. However, disaster struck in their final game of the season when Christian Watson tore his ACL against the Chicago Bears. The disaster continued into their playoff game against the Eagles when the team lost several starters, including WR Romeo Doubs, WR Jayden Reed, RB Josh Jacobs, OL Elgton Jenkins, OL Josh Myers, LB Quay Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt. Between the injuries, bad luck, and ugly penalties, the Packers ended their season with a 22-10 loss.
2023 Home Opener
Opponent: New Orleans Saints

Playoffs: Lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Divisional round
The season got off to a promising start as the Packers went into Soldier Field and dominated the Bears in a 38-20 win in Jordan Love’s first game as Packers QB1 (that gave us an iconic photo from David Bakhtiari). However, it would take a bit for the Packers to find their footing with their new quarterback at the helm. The team started 2-5, but turned things around and stunned the world with an incredible performance on Thanksgiving in Detroit, followed by a big win over the Chiefs at home the next week. However, the Packers went 2-1 in their next 3 games against struggling teams including losses to the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and a win over the Carolina Panthers thanks to poor clock management by Carolina in the final seconds. On New Year’s Eve, the team had a dominant win over the Minnesota Vikings and ended their season with a win over the Bears. The Packers faced a huge challenge against the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs, a team that hadn’t lost at home all season. Jordan Love put up one of the greatest playoff performances in NFL history in his first playoff game ever and the Packers shocked the Cowboys in a 48-32 win that had the Packers up 34-10 at one point. Jordan Love was pulled from the game with a perfect stat line until the defense made things a little too close for comfort. Love came back in and had 1 incompletion, taking him out of a perfect passer rating. The Packers went on to face the San Francisco 49ers hoping to finally move on from the ugly history of Packers-49ers playoff games for Green Bay. Unfortunately, despite the Packers having a 21-14 lead heading into the 4th quarter, they couldn’t keep the momentum (sound familiar?), and they lost 24-21, ending their season.
2022 Home Opener

This was QB Aaron Rodgers’ last season as a Green Bay Packer despite signing a new contract in the offseason, and unfortunately it was not exactly a good season to go out on. The Packers traded star WR Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason after being unable to agree on an extension and the team missed the playoffs for the first time since Mike McCarthy was fired. After starting the season 3-1, the team lost 7 of their next 8 with their one win coming in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys in Mike McCarthy’s return to Lambeau Field. The team made a push late, winning 4 of their next 6, including a win over the Bears that made them the winningest franchise in NFL history. All the team needed to do was beat the Detroit Lions in their final game in order to sneak into the playoffs. Despite it being at home, the team struggled, and like his predecessor before him, Aaron Rodgers’ last pass as a Green Bay Packerwas a season-ending interception. Because as Packers fans we can’t just have normal moments. Things are either good or traumatizing and gutting.

Playoffs: Lost in Divisional to San Francisco 49ers
The offseason was a little touch and go for the Packers after the team struggled to get a deal done with Davante Adams. However, both Rodgers and Adamsposted a photo referencing “The Last Dance” indicating they’d both be returning for at least that season. The 2021 season gave us one of the best Aaron Rodgers moments when the team was playing the Chicago Bears in Soldier Field. After running in a touchdown in the 4th quarter, the QB put on his iconic belt and yelled “I OWN YOU” to Bears fans in the stands. Rodgers had one of the best seasons of his career in 2021, securing his 4th MVP win after throwing for over 4000 yards, 37 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. Both Rodgers and Adams also secured 1st team all-pro nods for the season. The Packers finally got their home playoff game against the 49ers after securing the 1 seed and faced the San Francisco 49ers in a snowy Lambeau Field. The Packers’ offense put up a disappointing 10 points. The defense held the team to 3 points through 3 quarters but ultimately Maurice Drayton’s special teams unit did what they do best…suck! Corey Bojorquez had a punt blocked late in the 4th that the 49ers returned for a touchdown to tie the game. The 49ers won the game on a field goal as time expired. Maurice Drayton lost his job and my therapist got a little more job security! Balance!
2020 Home Opener

Playoffs: Lost in NFC Championship to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The offseason was a weird one after the Packers traded up in the draft to select QB Jordan Love in the first round. Between that little piece of drama and the league dealing with COVID-19, the season as a whole was a little odd. However, the Packers themselves were on a tear, specifically the offense. The Packers put up at least 30 points in 12 of their 16 games and scored a whopping 509 points, their 2nd highest scoring season of all time only behind the 2011 season (560). The Packers ended their season on a 6 game winning streak and earned the #1 seed in the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers won the MVP after throwing for 4299 yards, 48 touchdowns (a career high) and just 5 interceptions with a passer rating of 121.5, just under his career best of 122.5 in the 2011 season. The team throttled the Los Angeles Rams in their Divisional playoff game, 32-18 and moved onto their second consecutive NFC Championship appearance against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs destroyed the Packers earlier in the season 38-10 including a very uncharacteristic pick 6 from Aaron Rodgers which meant the team had the opportunity to have the last laugh, but couldn’t get it done. The offense and defense struggled with consistency and despite throwing 3 interceptions, Tom Brady would defeat the Packers and move on to win his 7th Super Bowl.
2019 Home Opener

Playoffs: Lost in NFC Championship to San Francisco 49ers
This was Matt LaFleur’s first season as head coach and was the first season the Packers were without Randall Cobb or Clay Matthews since they were drafted. While there weretense moments between the new head coach and the star veteran QB, they won 13 games together and boosted the offense despite an offseason narrative that Aaron Rodgers was on the downswing of his career and that Bears QB Mitch Trubisky would soon“dethrone” Rodgers in the division. The team swept the division in 2019 and earned the 2nd seed in the NFC. The Packers won the Divisional round, defeating Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks 28-23 at Lambeau Field. The NFC Championship the next week took place in, you guessed it, San Francisco, where the Packers had an absolutely terrible first half. What could go wrong, went wrong. The 37-20 score makes the game sound like it was much closer than it was, because the Packers were down 27-0 at halftime.
2018 Home Opener

This atrocious season being the season that started with one of the greatest Packers regular season games of all time is criminal. Even more so, it was the Packers’ 100th season as a franchise. So naturally, why would it be normal? Packers fans thought their season was over in Week 1 against the Bears when Rodgers went down with a knee injury. However, Rodgers made a miraculous return in the 2nd half and led the team to a win after being down 20 points. The Packers had their 2nd losing season in a row including a loss to the 2-9 Arizona Cardinals at home late in the season, which resulted in the firing of Mike McCarthy hours after the game. Joe Philbin took over as the interim head coach and the Packers finished the season 2-2, with a 6-9-1 record overall and missed the playoffs.
2017 Home Opener

The Packers’ season started strong with the team going 4-1 in their first 5 games. Once again, disaster struck, and the Minnesota Vikings had one of their best“sports moments of the decade” in Week 6 when Anthony Barr sacked Aaron Rodgers that resulted in a broken collarbone for the QB. Rodgers remained sidelined until Week 15, when he returned to play the Carolina Panthers at home. However, the Panthers came out on top including anembarrassing moment from the Packers defense at the hands of Panthers QB Cam Newton. The Packers shut Aaron Rodgers down and the team ended the season with their first losing record since 2008.

Ah yes, the “Run The Table” season. The Packers were 4-6 at the end of November, when Aaron Rodgers made the iconic statement that he felt the team could “run the table” and win out. Which they did, including securing the NFC North title. The 2016 playoff run was full of iconic moments too, including their 38-13 win over the New York Giants in the Wild Card round that gave us theBieber Boat Pic,Randall Cobb Hail Mary to end the first half, andOBJ punching a hole in the wall at Lambeau Field. The next week we got the Packers in Dallas taking on the Cowboys which gave us theHe Went To Jared pass to Jared Cook and the Mason Crosby game-winning field goal set toCeline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. Vibes were high going into Atlanta for the NFC Championship game until fans realized Ladarius Gunter would be in charge of guarding Julio Jones, who ended up with 180 yards that game. The Packers defense was in way over their heads at this point and the team lost 44-21 to MVP Matt Ryan and his QBs coach, Matt LaFleur.
2015 Home Opener

The Packers started this season without WR Jordy Nelson after he tore his ACL in the preseason. Despite losing one of their best weapons, the Packers started the season 6-0. However, they only won 4 more games the rest of the season and ended their 4-season streak of winning the division when they lost to the Vikings in Week 17. However, this season did give us THE Hail Mary akathe Miracle in Motown in Detroit in Week 13. The Packers throttled the Washington Redskins 35-18 in the Wild Card round but lost a devastating game to the #2 seeded Arizona Cardinals in overtime that included a game-tyingHail Mary from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers’ offense didn’t get to touch the ball in Overtime.
2014 Home Opener

Playoffs: Lost in NFC Championship to Seattle Seahawks (I’m sorry)
The Packers were undefeated at home in 2014, and the Packers’ offense felt unstoppable behind Aaron Rodgers who would go on to win league MVP for the 2nd time in his career. However, the season had fans and analysts concerned when the team started 1-2. After their Week 3 loss, Rodgers gave his legendaryR-E-L-A-X quote before the team went on to win 4 in a row. The Packers put up 50 points in back-to-back games against the Bears and the Eagles. In that Week 10 55-14 win over the Bears, Aaron Rodgers threw for 6 touchdowns, which tied a record set by Matt Flynn in 2012. The team won their 4th division title in a row and secured the #2 seed in the playoffs. The Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field in theDez Bryant “catch” game in the Divisional round. However, I wish it had been ruled a catch and that the Packers lost that game because then we wouldn’t have to live through the haunting NFC Championship game in Seattle. 2013 Home Opener

Playoffs: Lost Wild Card to San Francisco 49ers
The season had a lot of promise. The Packers started the season 5-2 before, wait for it, DISASTER STRUCK ONCE AGAIN. Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone in their loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 9 and was out for several weeks, which gave us a brutal few weeks of Packers QB play. The team went 3-0-1 in their next 4 and squeaked out back-to-back wins, including a franchise-record 23-pt comeback from Matt Flynn against the Cowboys in Week 15. Amazingly, when Aaron Rodgers returned in Week 17, the division was still up for grabs. It was either the Packers or the Bears, winner takes the division. And in that cold night at Soldier Field, Aaron Rodgers and Randall “Bear Killer” Cobb did what they do best….broke Bears fans’ hearts. The team lost 23-20 in the Wild Card round in a frigid game at Lambeau Field against the San Francisco 49ers. While the team didn’t give up 180 rushing yards to 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick like they did the year prior, he still did enough to send the Packers home.
There you go….an NFL record-tying 13 seasons of the Packers winning their home openers and what have we got to show for it? Well…by my count we’ve got 10 winning seasons, 5 division titles, 7 playoff wins, 3 MVPs, 3 Hail Marys, and all the happy memories. On the other hand, we also have 10 playoff losses and endless trauma suffered at the hands of some of those losses. But, ya know, what are ya gonna do?
