Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has been quizzed about Gavi after once again overlooking the Barcelona midfielder for his latest squad.
Gavi did not feature in the last call-up in October either, with De la Fuente saying the Barcelona star must work hard and improve if he is to force his way back into the reckoning at international level.
“Gavi has to continue to be himself. He knows that he must continue to work and grow to be here again,” he told a news conference.
“It’s not easy at all, because we demand
a lot and all the players have a great level, but they all have to keep improving to come to the national team.”
Gavi is also finding game time hard to come by with Barcelona at present but did feature as a substitute in midweek in the Champions League and will be hoping for more game time against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
After that La Liga will pause for the international break, with Spain set to play Czechia and England in the Nations League.
