The Cleveland Browns received some good injury news on Saturday for a few key players, but one of the players we didn’t hear an update on was star cornerback Denzel Ward, who was added to the injury report during the week as questionable with a hand injury. Early Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport reports that Ward will warm up to see if he is able to play:
On Friday, Browns head coach Todd Monken had said that he didn’t know how Ward injured his hand, but that the injury was to one of his fingers. At the time, Monken said, “Knowing Denzel, we expect him to play, but we’ll see.”
Finger injuries can no doubt be painful, especially when one is going to make tackles, getting jams on, or trying to break up/intercept a pass. Nonetheless, it’s also one of those things that would be a shock to Browns fans if Ward ends up being inactive — as in, “Really? We’re suddenly missing our best defender with a finger injury?” Maybe fortunately for Ward, Titans QB Cam Ward hasn’t thrown for a lot of yards each week this season, and the Titans’ offense ranks 32nd in the NFL.
We’ll keep you updated on Ward’s status when the Browns’ gameday inactives are released around 11:30 am ET today.
