Well this is starting to get annoying. Germany crashing out for the third straight World Cup before reaching the Round of 16, is not doing themselves any favors. Fans are seemingly getting caught up in a generation of German talent that has produced only a handful of special moments in the last eight years. As a result, players with multiple nationalities to represent, often choose to neglect Germany’s call.
This week we have seen another result of this as Gladbach talent Wael Mohya, is set to switch
his international allegiance to Morocco to represent them at the senior level, as per reports from Bild as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
While Mohya is not yet a household name in Germany just yet, he has been making splashes representing Germany recently at the U-18 level. This is now a growing trend for the DFB where players ignore the glamorous call of four World Cup titles, for smaller footballing nations. While this is most often seen with Türkiye, the trend applies for other countries such as Austria, and now Morocco.
Is this the beginning of a seriously troubling sign for the DFB? Can Jürgen Klopp fix the organization of the national team? While not every player can represent Germany, it is worrysome. Not to mention the fact that Mohya is the third most valuable U18 player for Germany, just behind none other than Lennart Karl and Kennet Eichhorn.
When you put it like that, this is bad news for Germany. While no one is rooting for Mohya to fail should he commit to Morocco, it would be quite another hard pill to swallow if the Gladbach talent turns out to be anything close to another Kenan Yıldız.
