Tino Livramento is not expected to sign an immediate extension with Newcastle United to prolong the duration of his contract, with the defender preferring to wait until later in the season before committing to new terms, according to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
Informal discussions have taken place in recent weeks, and sporting director Ross Wilson is understood to have established a good relationship with the player’s representatives. However, Livramento’s camp is inclined to delay any firm agreement.
Newcastle are keen to secure an extension well before his current deal expires in 2028, as the club believe his development, form, and rise to England international status merit an improved contract and a longer commitment.
Livramento, who has earned three caps for England, is settled on Tyneside and acknowledges the progress he has made under Eddie Howe’s coaching staff.
Despite that, Manchester City’s long-standing interest is a significant factor in the player’s decision to keep his options open. City have conducted extensive scouting on Livramento and have used Matheus Nunes and Abdukodir Khusanov at right back this season.
An approach from the Premier League champions is expected in 2026, which influences the defender’s reluctance to commit early, paving the way for a potential exit next summer.
If Howe’s side recovers from their current position in the Premier League and clinches a Champions League spot, Livramento could see a new contract as the most favourable route for his long-term development. Until then, the situation remains fluid, and while discussions are active, there is a very serious chance Tino becomes a Cityzen next summer if NUFC cannot improve their results during the second half of the season.
