Heading into the 2025 season, if you were to have predicted which Colorado starting pitcher would have the most wins, the answers probably would have been Kyle Freeland or Germán Márquez, or perhaps an optimistic
guess of Chase Dollander. Odds are, Tanner Gordon wasn’t a likely candidate.
The 27-year-old rookie will be on the mound tonight vs. the Seattle Mariners (88-69) with the chance to seal the Rockies win title with his seventh win. Gordon (6-7, 6.00 ERA) will get the opportunity for a .500 record on the mound in his 15th start, just a fraction of Freeland’s 30, Márquez’s 25 and Dollander’s 21. All three starters have combined for only 10 wins with four games left on the docket and Dollander already done for the season.
In Seattle, Gordon joined his fellow Rockies in some costume-wearing shenanigans.
Gordon will be pitching head-to-head vs. Luis Castillo (10-8, 3.63 ERA). The 32-year-old righty and three-time All-Star will be making his 32nd start of the season. Castillo has been on a roll in September, going 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA in with four quality starts in four starts. He only allowed three hits, while striking out three and walking none in six shutout innings against Kansas City in his last outing.
After clinching a postseason berth win their win on Tuesday night, the Mariners can clinch the AL West title with a win on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Rockies (43-114) made some lineup moves, including reinstating Warming Bernabel from the IL. The rookie will be starting at first base on Wednesday.
