Real Madrid’s win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday in La Liga has brought plenty of debate, with former Barcelona director Toni Freixa joining the conversation.
Kylian Mbappe scored the winner from a penalty
awarded in the ninth minute of stoppage time, a decision Freixa called “a real scandal, outrageous, shameless” in a series of posts on social media.
He went on to add: “The Rayo player touches the ball with the tip of his foot and shoots into the air and there is no direct contact. The opposing player is play-acting as they always do. IT IS NOT A PENALTY and what is even worse: THE VAR DID NOT INTERVENE. Shame on you RFEF, La Liga, CTA.”
The decision to add on nine minutes of stoppage time was also scrutinised as Madrid cut the gap to Barcelona back to just one point again.
“What justification is there for 9 minutes of added time when there were no injuries, only one goal, and the normal substitutions? Why nine minutes? It’s outrageous,” he said.
“We’ve seen this before, this is what has always happened in the Spanish League: it’s until Real Madrid scores, and it was bound to happen. Those of us who have experienced it so many times knew it was going to happen, but now they don’t even try to hide it.”
“I have to tell you something: Real Madrid isn’t going to win a single title this season because they’re not playing any kind of football. It’s pathetic, it’s pathetic. I mean, today Rayo was the better team, and with just a little more effort, Rayo would have won the game, won the three points. But the scandal is enormous. Is anyone going to be held accountable for all this?”
Freixa’s final post was a poll which asks fans: “If the culers made a manifesto to present it to La Liga, RFEF, and the CTA to denounce the refereeing favors to Madrid, would you sign it?”
What do you think Culers?
