Newcastle United have made contact over a potential summer move for Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande, according to Football Insider.
The outlet reports that Newcastle have already sounded out the 22-year-old ahead of the transfer window and that a deal in the region of £35million could be accepted.
Diomande has attracted attention across Europe, with Crystal Palace previously interested in the defender as a possible replacement for Marc Guehi. According to Football Insider, Palace is far from
the only club monitoring his availability.
The defender recently featured in Sporting’s match against Arsenal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, where he completed 90 minutes.
Newcastle will definitely need to revamp a defense that will likely lose veteran Fabian Schar and only retain starters Sven Botman, Dan Burn, and Malick Thiaw.
Diomande is viewed within the Magpie organization, according to Football Insider, as a player capable of strengthening the centre of defence ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
