Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
“We’re Cousins”: Jaylen Brown Discovers Unexpected Family Connection to Patriots’ A.J. Brown After 76ers Trade – Yahoo! Sports Sometimes life throws surprises, and no one knows it better than Jaylen Brown. After the Boston Celtics traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers, Brown revealed that he has a fairly close connection to New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown. “What’s crazy is that we’re cousins,” Philadelphia 76ers guard Jaylen Brown said
on NBC10 Boston. “I didn’t know that. My grandpa just told me. I don’t think he knew that either. His grandfather is brothers with my grandfather.” Jaylen is older than A.J. by seven months. They also grew up in the South, with the forward attending high school in Georgia and the wide receiver growing up in Mississippi.
ESPN rankings: Saquon Barkley drops but still considered top 5 running back – BGN
Despite a drop in production in 2025, the coaches, scouts, and team personnel around the league didn’t penalize Barkley for his performance that followed a 2,000-yard season when it came to voting. “I’m not going to penalize him for a terrible all-around offense last year,” a high-ranking personnel official with an NFL team said, according to ESPN. “He’s still a three-down weapon and if I needed a running back for one season I’m still taking him 1.”

Things to watch for at Eagles training camp: Interior defensive line edition – PhillyVoice
One of the camp breakouts last year was Gabe Hall, who spent his rookie season on the practice squad, but played well during the summer both in practices and in the preseason games. He made the initial 53-man roster, but was waived after Week 1 and spent another season on the practice squad. He did appear in two games — Week 1 vs. Dallas and Week 18 against Washington — but only played 13 total snaps. Hall has become something of a forgotten guy on the Eagles’ roster. He’ll have to build on what he did in camp a year ago to make the roster this season, and there’s opportunity there since Robinson has disappointed.
Eagles 2026 most important list: Jonathan Greenard – NBCSP
Jonathan Greenard wasn’t the Eagles’ first choice this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he won’t end up being the best fit. The Eagles clearly wanted to keep Jaelan Phillips before Carolina spent big to lure him away from Philly. And then the Eagles had some interest in other big-name free agents. But eventually during the draft, they pulled off a trade to acquire Greenard from Minnesota and gave him a four-year extension worth $98 million. Greenard could end up having a really big season in 2026. Greenard, 29, had a bit of a down season in 2025 with just 3 sacks in 12 games for the Vikings. His season also ended early with a shoulder injury that needed surgery. But Greenard has a track record of production with 12 1/2 sacks in 2023 and 12 in 2024. “Having 12 and 12 and then obviously had the down year, that was not up to my standard by any means,” Greenard said after being traded to Philly. “I’m coming for more. I’m definitely trying to get back to that point of double digits to where I can affect the game.”
Jordan Davis focused on the collective unit after contract extension – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Drafted by Philadelphia in 2022, Jordan Davis is the longest-tenured Eagle on the defensive line at only the age of 26. His Pro Bowl-level play for the team earned the former Georgia Bulldog a three-year contract extension this offseason. With that power comes great responsibility. “I would say it’s probably the standard that I’ve raised for myself,” Davis said when questioned about what has changed for him personally since signing the extension. “Every year we’re looking forward to finding a new thing to get better at, whether that’s technique, film watching, just understanding the game on a different level.” Davis spent the offseason training to get as strong as he could entering Organized Team Activities in May, the first time the defensive line was able to practice as a unit since the end of last season. The individual workouts now turn into working together as a team.
Devan Kaney lands a new gig as WIP still has an Eagles opening – Inquirer
Those last few months included being laid off at WIP as part of company-wide cutbacks by parent company, Audacy. The move was a surprise, considering Kaney was coming off her first full season as the station’s sideline reporter during Eagles broadcasts after replacing Howard Eskin, who abruptly left the station in January 2025 following an incident with a female staffer. Kaney jumped in and served as the station’s sideline reporter during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. […] So far, WIP hasn’t announced who will be replacing her, and the clock’s ticking. The Eagles’ first preseason game is five weeks away, with the Birds taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 15.
Caleb Downs, Dillon Thieneman, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, and the rise of the NFL super-safety – SB Nation
Downs may be the most NFL-ready player in this class regardless of position; he ran the show in Matt Patricia’s NFL-conversant defense, and there’s no reason to believe that he can’t do that at the next level — especially in a new Christian Parker-led defense that takes its two-high shells, match coverage principles, and defensive back versatility from the Vic Fangio tree (Parker was the Philadelphia Eagles’ passing game coordinator & defensive backs coach in 2024 and 2025). Certainly a glow-up from whatever the heck it was that Matt Eberflus was doing with that defense last season.
Measuring the fan experience based on Cowboys history – Blogging The Boys
If you are 40 years old or younger, our hearts go out to you. The sheer amount of disappointment you have faced cannot be overstated. Fans in this group have every right to feel genuine frustration because all they have to hang their hat on is five measly playoff wins. Five. That unsettling stat goes all the way back to 1996. Worse yet, none of these playoff wins have extended past the wild card round. We remember them beating Tom Brady’s Buccaneers a few years ago or Dak Prescott flying head over heels to secure a win against the Seahawks. And let us not forget Tony Romo leading a fourth-quarter victory over the Lions that contained that controversial pass interference no-call where the refs picked up the flag. As good as those wins felt at the time, it is the spectacular letdowns that stick with us the most. The Dez no catch. The late-game Romo blunders. The disappointed first-game exits despite “bye”-passing the wild card round. They all hurt, and we’ve seen a lot of it.

Can the NY Giants upgraded offensive line make up for Malik Nabers’ injury? – Big Blue View
There is a definite sense of optimism surrounding the New York Giants, and real excitement for what the team can be in 2026. The Giants are considered one of the most likely teams in the NFL to make the leap from worst to first and could challenge the Philadelphia Eagles for the division crown. The biggest reason for that is the arrival of head coach John Harbaugh, but the Giants have also had a strong off-season that may have brought upgrades to almost every position on the field. The first priority for the Giants this off-season has been to build an environment in which Jaxson Dart can mature into a true franchise quarterback. ESPN polled their NFC East writers on the state of the teams they cover, and the very first question was how each team’s off-season impacts their respective quarterback.
2026-27 National Football League important dates – NFL.com
The National Football League announced on Tuesday its slate of important dates ahead of the 2026-27 season. Among the notable changes this year is the shortening of the period between the NFL Scouting Combine and the start of free agency, which spanned a full week in 2026. In 2027, there will only be one day between the end of the combine (March 8) and the start of the negotiation period (March 9). The start of the new league year begins two days later at 4 p.m. ET.
USMNT vs. Belgium: What we learned – same question, different generation – Stars And Stripes FC
What we learned is that the most talented group of American men to ever play in a World Cup didn’t have the mentality that showed itself in small but meaningful ways 12 years ago: tactical edge, team spirit, physical commitment, defending teammates, and embracing the underdog role. Arguably, it’s a quality that the team has lacked since that fateful October night in Trinidad & Tobago nearly a decade ago. Until the team’s culture and mindset change, there’s little reason to expect different results on the biggest stage. While we’re discussing what we learned, we might as well still be asking: What are we doing?
