After two physical practices in full gear, the Chicago Bears were just in shorts and shells today. It was a shorter practice, including some walk-through in the red zone, but the crispness from the offense definitely picked up after a rough outing on Tuesday.
“Caleb Williams in 7 on 7 drill today so far: 8/9 with TDs to Kyle Monangai, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, and Kaden Davis,” per the Bear Report. “Very sharp in 7 on 7 today overall. Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum, and Miller Moss all had TDs.
Think there was a total of 3 incompletions.”
Every beat reporter in attendance raved about Kaden Davis’ sliding one-handed touchdown catch. Davis has been mentioned a few times during the first seven practices of camp, so he’s likely to be that “guy” this preseason. Even more so if the Bears share the video of today’s catch.
Defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo is aware of the “Motivated Dayo” trend circulating on social media, and he laughed and said he was fine with it, saying, “It’s entertainment at the end of the day. That’s what football is about.” He added that rehabbing from an injury reminds him how much he wants to be out there and that “Being able to play football is a blessing.”
Wideout Luther Burden III, who took a big shot yesterday, was at practice, and it was business as usual for him.
Also, don’t forget that we’re just talking ’bout practice.
A few other nuggets from the day.
Left guard Joe Thuney and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett received veteran rest days today. With Thuney out, it was second-year pro Luke Newman filling in with the starters. (link)
Braxton Jones had the bulk of the work at left tackle with the first string. However, at the start of practice, Theo Benedet was with the ones at LT, and Jedrick Wills Jr. was getting reps with the twos at right tackle. (link)
Nickelback watch: Jaylon Jones is still NB1 with Josh Blackwell with the twos. (link) Also, “Dillon Thieneman says he’s cross-training a bit more in nickel and with man coverage,” per the Bear Report. “He’s been working with Al Harris on that.”
Both T.J. Edwards (activated off the NFI) and Marlen Sewell (newly signed safety) got in their 40 up downs before practice. A few Bear defenders joined in.
Dayo Odeyingbo has been lining up at defensive tackle in some obvious pass rush situations during the early days of camp.
And a few videos from the day.
