According to Fangraphs, Boston’s BABIP was .571 as a team last night. It felt like it was 1.000. They had 18 hits, and 2 of them left the yard, so I assume that .571 comes out to 16-for-28.
I don’t think they have splits for “on balls hit to Angel Martinez” but Boston may have been 12-for-12 in that area alone.
So yeah, yesterday was frustrating. Guardian pitchers weren’t put in positions to succeed by their manager, but at some point you would have thought luck would be on their side.
So yeah, Garrett
Crochet gave up 4 home runs to batters nobody fears but it didn’t matter. The Guardians found a way to lose. Story of the 2025 season. John Smoltz still hasn’t caught on.
Cade Smith is being pushed beyond his limits and not thriving. Because of the other story of the 2025 Guardians: 2 of them decided it was more important to make a couple bucks on the side by gambling.
Meanwhile…
• Shohei Ohtani hit his 100th home run as a Dodger.
• 2025’s Rookie of the year is being debated.
• The Twins are so bad that Andrew Benintendi had a big night.
