As Dayot Upamecano’s contract until June of 2026 with Bayern Munich nears expiry, talks between the Bavarians’ and their star center back continue behind the scenes. Despite reports that the Frenchman
has already agreed a new deal at Bayern, nothing is done until the ink is dried and the official announcement is made. During Bayern’s pre match press conference ahead of the Bundesliga clash against VfL Wolfsburg, Bayern’s board member for sport Max Eberl was asked yet again about Upamecano’s contract situation and these reports that a contract extension is imminent. Smiling, he denied that negotiations were all done:
“It’s no secret that we’re determined to extend his contract, because he is so important to us from a sporting perspective,” Eberl openly stated, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I do not care about all the the reports. The only statement that counts for me is that of Upa and his agents. That is what we are waiting on. We’re talking a lot and hoping that he chooses us because we rate him so highly as a player.”
The fans continue to hope for the same.
