DURHAM, N.C. — Through just seven quarters this season, wide receiver Justin Bowick has been making an impact for the Illini.
In Week 1’s game against Western Illinois, the junior WR turned both of his first two receptions of the season into scores.
Early in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Duke, Bowick found his way into the endzone once again, this time on a nifty slant route from the four-yard line.
After leaving Ball State and deciding to transfer to Illinois this off-season, Bowick ended up entering a wide receiver room that was missing a true number-one option.
Standing at a towering 6’4, he’s emerged as a true scoring threat and quarterback Luke Altmyer’s go-to guy in the red zone.
In the first half of the game, Altmyer delivered a strike to Bowick on a play that was initially ruled a touchdown, but was later overturned.
Although we’re not too far into the season just yet, the Illini’s newest weapon has certainly done enough to throw his hat in the ring for that WR1 title.
