Bayern Munich has had two-and-a-half seasons under the guidance of board member for sport Max Eberl.
For his part, Eberl has done a good job of assembling a team that is equipped to win now, while also producing enough campus talent that there is — at least — some hope that a few of the kids will stick around,while others can be sold for a nice profit.
On the surface, it has been a brief era of progress under Eberl, but, ultimately, success is measured by the results on the field. With what looks to
be at least a solid two-year window (it could extend longer depending on some personnel moves) to attempt to secure a treble, Eberl seems to realize the opportunity that this squad has.
“If I want to shape the future, I have to know the club’s past. To shape the future using the lessons we’ve learned from the past, I have to work towards it today. That’s what we’ve done for the past two years, and that’s exactly what we want to continue doing. I can’t promise a Champions League title – that comes down to fine margins. But of course, over the next two years, we would very much like to have won the Champions League,“ Eberl told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). ”We want to continue establishing Bayern Munich as a force capable of competing with the Premier League and remain competitive, while developing the squad in a way that is financially sustainable for us and makes sense to the people.
“We want to reach the final and, ideally, win it. We will do everything we can to make that happen. Bayern Munich’s ambition is to win every title available. But given the strength of the competition, it’s no longer the case that quality alone is the decisive factor. You also need that little bit of luck in the crucial second or in a decisive situation. The differences in quality between teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are very small. In these matches, it comes down to the finest of margins.”
Indeed it does.

Song of the Midweek: “Sex Type Thing” by Stone Temple
Sure, we have featured Stone Temple Pilots here before, but not “Sex Type Thing” from the (incredible) “Core” album.
“Core” was released in 1992 and just bashes you over the head with its first three songs — “Dead & Bloated”, “Sex Type Thing”, and “Wicked Garden.” The other two songs have featured here before (and so has the 11th track “Crackerman”), but I distinctly remember being blown away by those first three songs when I first listened — which was an awesome way to start the album. Finding “Crackerman” in the No. 11 slot on the album was like discovering a hidden treasure.
The crazy thing is that “Plush” and “Creep” were easily the biggest hits from the album. Anyway, enjoy this track as we venture back into the 90s once again:
Entertainment Rundown
Carnivale
This old HBO show was short-lived (cut because of budgetary reasons in a ridiculous decision by the network), but pretty awesome. I am toying with some ideas for it, so am doing a (very) slow burn rewatch of it.
Anyone else familiar with this one? It was on its way to being a classic, as it was based in a realm of mysticism and presented in an incredible way — at a time where HBO was focused almost exclusively on gritty realism (so, yes, before Game of Thrones). The cast was also on-point.
I’ll have something on this at some point after I formulate a plan. Maybe something like, “The case for…”. We shall see.
Dexter: Resurrection — Season 2
So…this writer has not watched season one of this show yet (while a big fan of the original Dexter, the final couple of seasons were rough and have made it tough for me to get back into it), but some of you are fans, so here you go:
Predictions
All of a sudden, some Bayern Munich fans are a little uneasy.
Is the team deep enough?
Does it have the right mix of players?
Will it be able to sustain the rigors of a hectic, rugged season?
Is the team good enough?
After Bayern Munich earned a 0-0 draw with Schalke 04, those questions all came to the forefront, but should they?
Over the course of a season, there will be off games. There will be times when the team looks slow or even apathetic. It will happen.
Unfortunately for the Bavarians, the result was just a few days ago and it remains at the forefront of many people’s minds. The good part is that Bayern Munich gets a chance to get right back on the horse and take a run at upending FK Bodø/Glimt, a quality team, but not one that can match the talent and depth of Bayern Munich.
The game should serve as a test, but also one that the Bavarians can — and should — pass with flying colors.
