Federico Chiesa’s first season at Liverpool didn’t go as hoped, with opportunities limited for the Italy international after he left Juventus looking to get his career back on track in the Premier League.
Despite that, Chiesa decided last summer that he would stay and spend another season in England.
So far in 2025-26, though, opportunities have remained limited—if slightly less limited than last season—and that has led to plenty of chatter concerning a potential return to Juventus for the second half of the season on loan with an eye to next summer’s World Cup, which Chiesa would like to take part in.
And according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Juventus have reached out to Liverpool about the situation, making at least informal contact as they seek to determine whether a loan deal is possible. For their part, the Reds are said to not be likely to sanction such a move given the squad is thin in attack.
Chiesa’s minutes may still be limited, but with Alexander Isak sidelined with a long-term injury the club would need a replacement if the forward departed. It’s unfortunate perhaps for Chiesa’s World Cup ambitions, but it’s easy to understand Liverpool not being eager to ship him out on loan this month.
