Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the matches of Bayern Munich’s U-23, U-19 and U-17 squads are recapped, line ups are provided and the highlights to the matches are hyperlinked on top of their respective score line. The U-23’s season has not started yet, therefore their match was a friendly and no official highlights were provided. Meanwhile, Bayern did not provide highlights for the U-17s. Remember, to watch highlights you need to have an account on the website but do not need to spend
any money.
Information on the U-23, U-19 and U-17 matches is provided by the official FC Bayern website here, here and here, respectively. If you wish to learn more about the format of the U-17 and U-19’s youth leagues and what is at stake, you can find more info here. Additionally, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. Without further ado, here is the round up:
Bayern II (U-23s) 1-3 Stuttgarter Kickers
Line up: Bärtl – Rüger (61. Degraf), Heindl (69. Puljić), Deziel Jr., Ofli (69. Yanda) – Schmitz, Richter (61. Santos), Cardozo (69. Darboe) – Scott (46. Sadat), Heinz, Della Rovere.
Goals: 0:1 Mauersberg (15.), 0:2 Tomic (35.), 0:3 Tomic (63.), 1:3 Della Rovere (67.)
Bayern II welcome Regionalliga Südwest side Stuttgarter Kickers to their home, contesting yet another friendly before their official restart to the league season on Friday, February 20th. The squad reflects the many transfers in and out that happened during the winter transfer window, with the likes of Felipe Chávez, Richard Meier, Grayson Dettoni and Magnus Dalpiaz going out on loan while Deniz Ofli, Maycon Cardozo and David Santos Daiber were promoted from the U-19s.
Unfotunately, this game did not exactly inspire much hope that the rest of the season will be all that great. Facing off against an opponent in the same division of German football as them, Bayern II were fairly comfortably beaten by the visitors.
The team will have one more chance to go into the season re-start on February 20 with a good result, as they play against 2. Austrian Bundesliga side First Vienna on February 14.
FC Kaiserslautern U-19s 2-0 Bayern U-19s, Matchday 1

Goals: 1:0 Ben Jungfleisch (19.), 2:0 Dzenan Resic (34.)
Unused subs: Kösters
Unavailable players: Michel Ekodi, Chivano Wijks, Oluwaseyi Wilson, Noah Codjo-Evora, Leopold Smid, Chris Afanou, Leonard Prescott, Roy Snip, Luis Schäfer
If one read the rules of the U-19 league in the article linked above, one would know that the U-19s and U-17s have been placed into a group of six teams, with 1o games to play in this phase. After these games, the top 4 teams will progress to the Round of 16.
Bayern’s U-19s, then, traveled to Kaiserslautern in an effort to start this second phase of the season with a victory and set the right tone early on. Their injury list did not help, unfortunately, as despite the 2 month winter break multiple long term injured players are still out. The latter three players on the injury list, meanwhile, are out due to sickness.
Their absence was crucial, too, as the U-19s fell to the hosts in a rather frustrating 2-0 loss. The first goal was conceded in a breakdown of the high line, as poor pressing and judgement allowed the opponents to go 3 v 3 against the Bayern backline. Despite a poor pass into the penalty area and a miss on the first attempt, forward Jungfleisch still had plenty of time and space to finish comfortably. The second concession was perhaps unfortunate, given the referee gave Kaiserslautern a very soft penalty. Yet the Bavarians were still 2-0 down just past the half hour mark and had not created enough to deserve any more than that.
But then they did create chances. Again and again and again they neared the opposition goal but simply failed to put the ball in the back of the net, with substitute Egwuatu contriving to miss from the right side of the six yard box. To a certain extent, it was one of those days.
The only thing for the U-19s to do is pick themselves up and prepare for the next match to make amends. That next match will be a home game against Hannover’s U-19s on Sunday, February 15th.
Bayern U-17s 1-2 Karlsruhe U-17s
Bayern lineup: Podar-Stiube – Pucci, Maspimby (76. Burghardt), Pavić, Horvath (58. Zogaj) – Danioko (58. Hentcho Nseke) , Horoszczak (76. Nuraj), Schaff, El-Chaar – Turbic, von Taube
Goals: 0:1 Böhner (44.), 0:2 Meyer (57.), 1:2 Aviel Hentcho Nseke (90.+5)
Yeah, this really was not a good week for Bayern’s youth teams. Despite creating some good chances, the finishing was not there for Bayern while the visitors profited from some mistakes. Hentcho’s injury time goal was not enough to save a point.
Coach Leonard Haas had this to say:
“With KSC, we faced a very mature opponent. They were very compact and played deep. Although we had almost 75 percent possession, we couldn’t capitalize on it in the final third. All in all, we had too few chances in the final third and didn’t make good use of the opportunities we created.”
