Philadelphia’s World Cup Moment at Lincoln Financial Field
The FIFA World Cup is more than just run of the mill football matches, it is a month-long event that can capture the imagination of an entire city. In 2026, Philadelphia will become one of the major hubs of the tournament as Lincoln Financial Field hosts six matches, including a massive Round of 16 clash on July 4th.
A historic city with plenty of charm, Philadelphia is one of the go-to destinations for World Cup fans. In addition to the tournament, the city will also play a major role during the United
States’ 250th anniversary celebrations, meaning the World Cup atmosphere could feel even bigger than usual.
Brazil, France, Croatia, Ghana, and Ivory Coast supporters are expected to travel heavily, giving Philadelphia an international feel throughout June and early July.
Teams, Stadium, and Match Information
Philadelphia will host five group stage matches and one Round of 16 knockout game at Lincoln Financial Field, which will temporarily be renamed “Philadelphia Stadium” during the tournament. The venue is expected to hold around 69,000 fans.
- June 14th: Ivory Coast vs. Ecuador — Group E — 7:00 PM ET
- June 19th: Brazil vs. Haiti — Group C — 8:30/9:00 PM ET
- June 22nd: France vs. Iraq — Group I — 5:00 PM ET
- June 25th: Curaçao vs. Ivory Coast — Group E — 4:00 PM ET
- June 27th: Croatia vs. Ghana — Group L — 5:00 PM ET
- July 4th: Round of 16 Match — 5:00 PM ET
The two bets games on the Philadelphia slate include one Group Stage game and one Round of 16 match:
- Brazil vs. Haiti : Brazil alone guarantees an electric atmosphere. Philadelphia could feel like a mini-Copa América environment with traveling supporters taking over South Philly.
- Round of 16 Match: This may become one of the signature games of the entire tournament. A knockout World Cup match in Philadelphia on Independence Day during America’s 250th anniversary celebration has the potential to create an unforgettable atmosphere.
There is also a sleeper match on the slate:
- Croatia vs. Ghana: This could quietly become one of the tournament’s most entertaining group-stage games. Croatia’s tournament experience against Ghana’s athleticism and energy feels like the type of matchup neutral fans end up loving.
Attendance Information
Philadelphia is one of the easier East Coast World Cup cities to navigate because of its public transportation access. Fans can take SEPTA’s Broad Street Line directly to NRG Station, which drops visitors near the stadium complex. Driving is possible, but parking and traffic will likely become extremely difficult on matchdays. Anyone who has attended a Philadelphia Eagles game can attest to that.
One incentive to get down to the stadium early is that Philadelphia will allow tailgating during World Cup matches, something that not all venues will accommodate. That alone could make the fan experience around Lincoln Financial Field feel uniquely American. Parking lots will open several hours before kickoff.
Ticket demand is already expected to be enormous, especially for Brazil, France, and the July 4th knockout game. Fans planning to attend should monitor FIFA ticket lotteries and resale exchanges closely. Even without tickets, the city is expected to host major fan festivals and public viewing areas throughout downtown and near the stadium district.
