Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers had their bye this week.
Atlanta Falcons
Coming off a horrible performance last week, the Falcons needed to play much better if they wanted any chance to beat the New England Patriots. Well, Atlanta did have that much better performance, and after being down 10 entering the fourth quarter, the Falcons nearly made the comeback… emphasis on nearly. Just as the Falcons thought they tied the game up with a touchdown to Drake London, kicker Parker Romo missed the extra point. This was a heartbreaking way
to lose the game, but for the Falcons, there were definetly some positive takeaways. QB Michael Penix performed well, and the pass rush investments the team made this offseason appear to be paying off.
Carolina Panthers
On the opposite end of kicking issues, we have the Panthers, who won their game on a winning field goal to beat the Green Bay Packers. This was an ugly win, but it was a win nonetheless. QB Bryce Young returned to the starting lineup after being out with an injury, and he did not have a good game. Once again, the only reasons the Panthers won this game were the running game and defense. RB Rico Dowdle ended the day with 130 yards and two touchdowns, and the Panthers’ defense completely prevented the Packers from scoring more than one touchdown.
New Orleans Saints
One thing that remains consistent each week is the Saints’ struggle to win. This game against the Los Angeles Rams was going to be a long shot to win, but it could have been a close final score. It was not, and the Rams looked like the better team. Rookie QB Tyler Shough got his first start of his career, and although it started slowly, he made some great plays. Still, the defensive issues, lack of run game, and questionable coaching decisions showed up and knocked the Saints out of this game.
