Vinnie Pasquantino was named American League Player of the Week.
“It’s definitely cool and it’s an honor to win the award,” Pasquantino said. “But we’ve got another game tonight. Not really a whole lot of time to be happy about it. So we’ve got to get ready for tonight.”
Michael Massey returned to the lineup after missing nearly three months.
“It’s nice to see him,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “It’s been a tough go for him here these last couple of months, with three different things, and for him to be healthy
and freshened up a little bit and able to get some work on his swing, it’s nice. He’s a big part of what we do here, and he was a big part of why we got to where we did last year.”
Anne Rogers writes about the ascent of Royals pitching prospect Kendry Chourio.
“From the moment I met him, the way he handles himself, it’s hard to believe he’s 17,” Royals pitching coordinator Paul Gibson said. “And then he goes out and does his throwing program, and the attention to detail – it’s like, ‘Oh my God, I haven’t seen this in years.’ In bullpens and in games, it’s the same thing. It reminds me a lot of what Zack Greinke looked like in high school. … Just the stature, and there’s something in the delivery that reminds me of [Greinke].
David Lesky looks at some veteran relievers who may be released to save money that could be of interest to the Royals.
Raisel Iglesias
Iglesias hasn’t been nearly as good this season and had a rough go of it yesterday, but the run he allowed was actually the first he’s allowed since July 26. He got roughed up on June 9, but has a 1.76 ERA with 33 strikeouts and four walks in his last 30.2 innings since then with just 17 hits allowed. If the Braves want to get out of the last $2.7 million or so, this would be a spot to go get a dominant arm. Of course, a lot of teams would likely be interested, so the Royals wouldn’t have a clear path to him.
Royals Reporter reacts to the return of Massey.
Rave was pretty subpar in nearly every hard-hit category (barrel, hard-hit, and average EV), and while he didn’t chase much, he put himself in way too many pitcher-friendly counts. A 42.4% swing rate and 58.9% Z-Swing% are way too low, especially for someone who doesn’t sport a ton of power. Pitchers challenged Rave a lot, and his passive approach didn’t produce results, sans that stretch after the All-Star Break.
I think there could be some potential with Rave to be a 4th outfielder, but I’m more than willing to give Massey a chance over Rave for now, mainly since Massey provides more versatility with the glove.
