Despite his claims of being the greatest featherweight in history, Conor McGregor failed to register a single title defense because he couldn’t handle the “nasty” cut to featherweight. In fact, “Notorious” was so “unhappy” he abruptly jumped to lightweight, where he got swole on steaks and captured a second championship title — while mixing in a few “jacked” appearances at welterweight.
Sounds like 170 pounds will be his new home for the foreseeable future.
“You’re going to have to do something really
big to get Conor at 155 again,” Coach John Kavanagh told mixedmartialarts.com (via MMA Fighting). “170 is a comfortable cut for him now and he’s got the frame for it. He certainly has the strength for it. He’s always had an unusual — he’s got that orangutan reach, so he’s comfortable at that. He can tie his shoelaces without bending down, you know?”
I guess that means he can also snort lines without bending down.
McGregor, who turns 38 in just a few days, plans to rack up another 100 fights before retiring, which is why your keyboard has an eye-rolling emoji. At the very least, we can expect “Notorious” to compete one more time inside the Octagon, which will satisfy the remaining fight on his current UFC contract.
That might take some time, according to this puzzling timeline.
“How does the calendar look? I stay in my lane, I’m just the coach. But of course, I would like to see him busier than waiting until next April,” Kavanagh continued. “We’re going to be done and dusted early July. So all going well, a little break and then back into it. I would love to have something before the end of the year, but I’ll let the guys in the suits argue about that.”
They might not have anything to argue about if Connie gets annihilated by Max Holloway in the UFC 329 main event this weekend in Las Vegas.
