After a big fat doozy of a season opening loss, and a big fat doozy of a win last week, the Green Bay Packers have finally played their home opener, and it was, you guessed it: a big fat doozy of a game. On Thursday Night Football
, the team laid a goose egg against the 0-2 Atlanta Falcons to kick off Week 3, and lost 35-14. Let’s get this show on the road.Winner: Brandon Cisse
The rookie DB put together a nice little game for himself, despite the feeling of dread lingering throughout the entire stadium and my body. He
had some great coverage which forced incompletions, and some good tackles either at the line of scrimmage, or at the point of catch, to prevent some big plays (don’t worry, big plays still happened). There wasn’t much to be unhappy with here, outside of a rookie mistake of an illegal contact foul, but I watched the game with my eyes closed, so I could be wrong. Either way, Cisse was a little bright spot during a very dark game.
Winner: Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden’s breakout season is off to a nice start. The 2nd year WR did a fantastic job adjusting in the first half and hauling in a 45 yard heave from Jordan Love. He also snagged his first regular season touchdown with an equally impressive catch. Bonus: he is an absolute magnet for DPI!
Loser: Jordan Love
The Packers QB is playing scared, and while I can’t exactly blame him, it’s time to get it together. He had some really bad throws Thursday night, both over and under thrown, and some which were just wildly off target. There was a hospital ball to Christian Watson. Love hesitated too much, and other times, he panicked. He looked completely lost against a very bad football team, and as a result, the offense couldn’t capitalize on some big plays by the defense.
During the team’s second drive of the game, he seemed to get into a bit of a rhythm, and the drive ended in their first touchdown. But this…was about it! He looked really awful, but I’m not sure how much better anyone else would’ve looked under those same circumstances.
Loser: MarShawn Lloyd
My RB, my sweet little built-like-a-bowling-ball RB: you are blind. You could not find an opening if a sinkhole swallowed the field.
Loser: The Offensive Line
Exhibit A below. I’M GOING TO BED.
The team heads into a desperately needed mini-bye week with a 1-2 record, and a lot to think about. Their next appearance comes on Sunday, October 4th, in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers. The game will be at 1PM ET/12PM CT (that’s a threat).
