Everton have announced the transfer of midfielder Tim Iroegbunam to newly-promoted Hull City. Though the the transfer fee was not disclosed, it is rumoured to be worth up £22 million with add-ons included, though word is the fixed fee is only worth up to £12m.
The 23-year-old leaves Everton having played 53 times for the Blues primarily as a central or defensive midfielder since joining the club in the summer of 2024. He lost over three months to an ankle injury over the winter of that first season,
and then nearly a month in January of this last season.
Fans had hoped that Iroegbunam would grow into the midfielder destroyer role that Idrissa Gana Gueye had perfected in his two stints with the Blues, but the England Under-20 international was too chaotic in his involvements on the pitch. He ended up with 14 bookings at one every 161 minutes played, which is more than three times worse than his fellow midfielders Gueye and James Garner. Iroegbunam’s passing range, ball control and shooting were all suspect, with his contributions in the attacking end minimal.
He will leave the club on good terms though having always given it his all, and had been a model teammate from what we have seen of him in training videos and pictures.
