Well, this has certainly been a roller coaster.
After a few days of the kind of cryptic social media messages wrestlers usually post before they become free agents, we got a report that Santos Escobar’s
WWE contract was about to expire and that negotiations either hadn’t started or weren’t going well. The next day Escobar was listed as “Alumni” on the company website, and the rumor mill said his issues were more creative than financial. We also heard that people within WWE believed El Hijo del Fantasma was AEW bound…
PWInsider is now reporting that Escobar re-signed with WWE “just days after his contract expired”. Mike Johnson’s sources say “WWE management considered Escobar’s creative concerns” and made him “a sizeably larger offer than any of their previous overtures”. It’s believed a deal was struck late yesterday.
The 41-year-old wasn’t being used prior to his contract expiring, so we’ll see when he re-emerges now that he’s satisfied with his new deal.
