San Diego Padres President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller introduced Craig Stammen as the next manager of the Padres at a press conference Monday. Stammen put on the familiar uniform, home whites with pinstripes, and his brown cap with gold SD logo officially
making him the manager in San Diego.
When news broke last week that Stammen had push past all other candidates and was going to lead the Padres, there were questions from fans and media members alike. I think that was due in large part to the fact that Stammen was not mentioned in any reports or named in any of the speculation around the vacancy. Had he been, maybe the announcement would not have shocked the majority of the Friar Faithful.
Stammen had a successful career as an MLB player and now he will attempt to recreate that success from the managerial seat. After listening to Preller, Joe Musgrove, Tony Gwynn Jr. and others talk about Stammen you can imagine a world where he is successful. The naysayers who disagree with the hire would not openly admit to rooting against the team or their new manager, but “I told you so” is not far from the tip of their tongue and will be stated like a mantra if either struggles or worse yet, fails.
So where do you stand?
