The Parkview High School drum major conducting the Gator Marching Band in their fight song – squillian
“A healthy Frazier is a beautiful thing to watch.” – Mr. Squillian, as we watched the WLOICP.
You know what else is beautiful? Marching bands. Both Podunk and I participated in marching band in high school, both in the flagline/colorguard (different schools call them different things). You cannot understand the level of excitement I had at 7:49AM Friday morning, when one of our Assistant Principals
sent out an email to the entire faculty, announcing that the Gator Marching Band would be practicing at Parkview High School from 3-6PM, open and free to the public.
Podunkpup commented on my Facebook post that he wasn’t “sure compliments to the Gators are allowed”, since his brother had gotten put out of the car for saying Go Gators one too many times. I reminded him that his brother would only have said that to irritate Podunk (one of his favorite things to do). However, I remain firmly convinced that if Podunk were with us today, she would have chosen to come for this game, and that she would have been just as excited to watch the Gator band as I was. I spent the entire time enthralled to watch (and wishing I were still in marching band).
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 146th game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 124-22 record and a 0.8493 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred twenty-fourth win overall in the indoor version of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party against the jort-wearing, booger-eating, swamp-living gators.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 146th game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs loss to Pitt in the Sugar Bowl of the 1976 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 98-43-5 and a 0.6884 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 108-38 (0.7397) after a win over Mizzou in the 2nd game of the 2012 season.
One hundred and forty six games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is sixteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 26 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
