The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially wrapped up training camp, with their final practice on Monday being cancelled due to inclement weather.
Much was made of several current and former Steelers discussing going to St. Vincent College for training camp over the last handful of week.s Former head coach Mike Tomlin made it clear he doesn’t miss the dorms.
“I don’t miss that dorm room in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where I spent a calendar year of my life,” Tomlin said during NBC’s coverage of the Hall of Fame
Game.
Former Steelers edge rusher Bud Dupree ad current defensive captain Cam Heyward shared the same sentiment when discussing training camp on Heyward’s podcast, Not Just Football.
“The best training camp we had was the COVID year,” Dupree said. “We stayed at our own house. I hated the dorms. I hated it.”
Heyward echoed Dupree’s displeasure with the dorms.
“The COVID year, we were trying so hard to win a Super Bowl so then we could tell Mr. Rooney and be like, Mr. Rooney, we won a Super Bowl, we don’t need to go back to Latrobe,” Heyward said. “It did not work out in that way. We were back in Latrobe the next year.”
This raised questions to whether the Steelers would continue their tradition of holding training camp at St. Vincent College, but head coach Mike McCarthy put those questions to rest.
“Not at all,” McCarthy said when asked if he’s considered not having camp in Latrobe in 2027. “Hell, we’ll see if we can stay longer next year.”
So for any fans worried that 2026 may have been the last time they could take a trip to St. Vincent to see the Steelers during the summer, fear not.
