Barcelona boss Hansi Flick called up young right-back Joan Anaya for first-team training on Thursday as he continues preparations for the team’s final game of the season against Valencia.
Anaya was the surprise addition to the ranks and took his place alongside youngsters such as Diego Kochen, Jofre Torrents, Xavi Espart, and Tommy Marqués.
The 21-year-old has trained with the first-team before but has been handed another chance as Flick continues to keep a close eye on the club’s most promising youngsters.
Anaya joined Barcelona in 2015 and has made his way through the ranks. However, he has struggled with injuries this season but is still clearly in Flick’s thoughts.
The defender is known for being an attacking full-back, who can also play as a winger, and has a contract with Barcelona until 2027.
Barcelona will train again on Friday before wrapping up their La Liga campaign at Mestalla against Valencia. The Catalans ran out 6-0 winners when the two teams met earlier this season.
