My wife has told me a story about how her mom started dating someone around 2000 and she wasn’t sure whether she liked him or not. When the Rose Bowl came around, she found out he was a Purdue fan. Not only did he (living in Seattle) cheer against the Huskies, he enlisted by late mother-in-law to root against her hometown team. My wife knew at that point that he was no good and turned against him permanently. The relationship didn’t last and I suspect my MIL always regretted her defection.
In that
game, the Huskies jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Drew Brees threw for 275 yards and 2 TDs, but Marques Tuiasosopo matched the two scores and rushed for 90 yards of his own. The Dawgs controlled time of possession with 268 rushing yards on 52 carries. Willie Hurst, Rich Alexis, and Pat Conniff all chipped in with solid games. This version of the Huskies barely have three healthy RBs on the roster, let alone three who could match that production. Nonetheless, I’d happy settle for a replay of the 34-24 final score.
The game will kickoff at 5 PM PT from West Lafayette, Ind. It will be the Dawgs’ first trip there in 36 years. The game will air on Fox with Dan Hellie and Robert Smith on the call (quietly, one of my favorite CFB broadcast teams). As usual, the game will air on KJR 93.3 and SiriusXM channel 257. Elis Woodward, Cam Cleeland, and Dave Mahler will be on the radio call for the game.
Go Dawgs!
