After much debate, the Green Bay Packers announced their first 53-man roster of the 2026 season after a day full of news. We’ll go position by position, showing you who made the team and the big information of the day.
Quarterback

Earlier today, the Packers traded third-string quarterback Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins for their sixth-round pick in 2028.
Running Back

Starting running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner Exempt list, which doesn’t count against the 53-man roster. Prior to that news, Kaleb
Johnson was traded for by the Packers for Green Bay’s original sixth-round pick in 2028.
Reciever

Receiver Savion Williams is dealing with an ankle injury and will start the season on the injured reserve, meaning that he’ll miss the next four weeks of action. Undrafted rookie J. Michael Sturdivant got the nod over Isaiah Neyor and Will Sheppard, who had also been working with the second-string offense this summer.
Tight End

Coming into today, I don’t think anyone had the Packers carrying four tight ends into the season, since Luke Musgrave was still on the PUP list. That changed when Green Bay traded a seventh-round pick in 2028 to the Los Angeles Rams for Mark Redman, a blocking tight end who had a nice preseason. Musgrave remains on the PUP list.
Offensive Line

Travis Glover, the forgotten man in Green Bay, finally displaced Darian Kinnard, who was the Packers’ sixth offensive lineman at times during the 2025 season, with the second-team offense in the final preseason game. Before then, Glover had been working with the second-team unit all summer. No returning player fell down the depth chart more than Kinnard in 2026.
Defensive Line

Green Bay found the room to keep all seven interior defensive linemen on the 53-man roster, even though it’s highly likely that the team will have to make one a healthy scratch at the start of the regular season. With only 48 bodies available on gamedays, it’s very hard to justify all seven dressing down for game action — especially when Karl Brooks is really the only special teams contributor among the bunch. Jordon Riley remains on the PUP list.
Edge Defender

Surprisingly, the Packers only kept four edge defenders at the position, as Collin Oliver was placed on the injured reserve with a return designation. The backups in this unit usually have to play a lot of special teams for Green Bay, but maybe carrying four tight ends will help the Packers with a similar body type. Brenton Cox Jr. has played very few special teams reps in the past (notably, edge defenders are usually the protection unit on punts), while Dani Dennis-Sutton is a rookie who has played all of one preseason game. Keep an eye out here. Yes, Micah Parsons is going to be out for the first four weeks of the year (at least) on the PUP list.
Off-Ball Linebacker

Cornerback

The Packers technically list Kamal Hadden as a cornerback, so we’re just going to have to roll with it. Hadden has recently been practicing with the safeties, as he’s really a slot defender, neither an outside cornerback or safety at the moment. In both of his preseason games, Hadden played exclusively in the slot for Green Bay. He made the roster by winning the backup job behind safety Javon Bullard following Jonathan Baldwin’s season-ending injury.
Safety

Like linebacker, this is basically the same unit as last season with one alteration. This time, Zayne Anderson isn’t on the team, as he signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins and his former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley this offseason. Safety Trey Dean III was waived with an injury designation. If he passes through waivers, he will go back to Green Bay on the injured reserve. From there, the team can decide whether or not to give him an injury settlement or pay him out his entire 2026 roster to remain on the IR.
Kicker
- Trey Smack
IT’S UP. IT’S GOOD. He was the only kicker on the roster, and he was perfect in the preseason.
Punter

He was also the only punter on the roster.
Long Snapper
- Matt Orzech
Despite Cal Adomitis playing the long snapping position for all of Trey Smack’s perfect streak in live action, the Packers activated Matt Orzech, their returning starter, from the PUP list on Sunday.
