These Cats just keep on rolling.
Your Kansas State Wildcats women’s basketball team (18-16, 8-10 Big 12) got the ball rolling at the 2026 Big 12 Tournament with an impressive 91-66 throttling of Cincinnati on Wednesday. Then they pulled off an incredible 21-0 run to end the game to take game two 58-51 over 5-seed #21 Texas Tech on Thursday. Then yesterday, the Cats fought and clawed and managed to pull off the upset against 4-seed Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals.
The MittieCats just keep finding
ways to win.
Now it’s on to their toughest test yet in the semifinals. TCU entered the Big 12 Tournament as the #10 team in the nation and the 1-seed of the tournament. They beat BYU yesterday 63-46 after jumping out to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter, and then just holding off the Cougars the rest of the way.
The last time these two squads faced off, TCU blasted the Cats 77-55 back before Christmas in Fort Worth — but the MittieCats are a different team than the one that played in Texas. Tess Heal played just 8 minutes that day, and is now the leader of this squad. Jordan Speiser has finally found her footing in her freshman campaign and is playing some of her best basketball down the stretch. And overall, the team is playing better together than they have all season.
It’s still going to be an uphill battle. The Horned Frogs are very good and a favorite to make a deep run later this March. Barring an improbable finish, the Wildcats are headed to the WBIT or the WNIT (different tournaments — the WBIT is actually run by the NCAA and is the “official” counterpart to the men’s NIT) after a season full of growing pains. But those growing pains have seemingly paid off, and K-State might legitimately challenge the Frogs today in Kansas City.
Regardless, it’s been a fun ride, and with the Cats firmly above .500, we’ve got at least another game waiting next week.
We’ve got a scheduled 3:00pm CT tipoff from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, and you can catch the action on ESPN+ with Eric Frede (play-by-play) and Christy Thomaskutty (analyst) on the call.
If you don’t have ESPN+, the game can be heard across portions of the 28-station K-State Sports Network with Brian Smoller (play-by-play) and Kristin Waller (analyst) calling the action. The game will also be available online at K-Statesports.com and via the Varsity Network app. Live stats are also available at k-statesports.com, and social media updates (@KStateWBB) will also be a part of the coverage.
Go Cats!
