The College Football Playoff committee unveiled its first rankings of the 2025 season, and to some’s dismay, the Texas Longhorns find themselves ranked 11th.
The Longhorns are the first team out, with Virginia (No. 14) and Memphis (unranked) receiving automatic bids as the ACC Champion and the highest Group of 4 team.
This week’s survey asked “who would be the biggest surprise team in the College Football Playoff” and Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns received 13% of the vote.
Texas will certainly find themselves in the playoffs if they can run the table with a pair of top-10 matchups against Georgia and Texas A&M looming. Even at 9-3, the Longhorns will have a case over other teams based on their resume. Of course, win out and you’re in.
