The Wisconsin Badgers easily beat the Marquette Golden Eagles 96-76 on Saturday, jumping ahead early and controlling the lead throughout the second half.
It was the 132nd meeting between the two teams,
and Wisconsin extended its lead in the series to 72-60, while avenging last year’s loss.
Wisconsin’s offense was led by John Blackwell, who had 30 points for the second time in three games, but all five starters reached double-figures, while Nolan Winter and Aleksas Bieliauskas had double-doubles.
Wisconsin out-rebounded Marquette 46-33, while shooting better from the field and getting to the free-throw line at a high rate. And it turns out they made history on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers’ 20-point win is the largest margin of victory in the I-94 series since 1952, while 96 points is the most they’ve ever scored in the series. They also hit 14 threes in the win at a 42 percent clip, which was the most they’ve ever had in the series.
With the win, Wisconsin improves to 6-2 on the season and faces Nebraska on the road this week before some time off. It’ll be a battle between the schools that attempt the most threes in the Big Ten, so expect another potential higher-scoring affair on Wednesday.
