This story comes from last summer, and is only being reported now. Wisdom Mike is considered one of the best youth talents at Bayern Munich right now. However, during a team meeting last year, he committed a major faux pas that saw him reprimanded by Vincent Kompany and FC Bayern.
Here’s how it was handled.
Per the report (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia) Mike accidently fell asleep in the front row of the auditorium during a team meeting. The teenager had allegedly stayed out late the night before, with
another youth player who has since been loaned out.
Kompany did not reprimand his player in front of the rest of the squad. Instead, he explained to Mike that he had to step up his game and something like that should not happen again. The talk worked, and Mike went on to work hard until he earned a Bundesliga debut during Bayern’s 4-0 win over Werder Bremen.
The coach apparently sent him onto the pitch with the words: “You deserved this — but don’t sleep again!”
Bayern Munich also sanctioned Mike for the incident. He lost his room at the FC Bayern Campus for a week, and was forced to stay in a hotel room at his own expense. The player’s father was also summoned for a meeting. After that, the matter was apparently settled, and Mike went on to make his debut without incident.
