New England Patriots starting right guard Mike Onwenu has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game with an ankle injury.
The injury occurred with less than one minute remaining in the first quarter, as Drake Maye was sacked on first-down which led to Steelers’ pass rusher T.J. Watt rolling up on Onwenu’s right leg.
Onwenu stayed down before being carted off the field. He was then immediately ruled out.
Veteran offensive lineman Greg Van Roten then took his place at right guard. Ben Brown is also
on the game day roster as a reserve option along the interior.
Onwenu has been one of the best best and most consistent lineman over the past few seasons. He started all 38 games at right guard over the last two seasons as he has led the team in offensive snaps in that stretch.
