Here is a look at the San Francisco 49ers players who will not practice on Wednesday:
RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring)
WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring)
WR Mike Evans (Achilles)
S Siran Neal (knee/foot)
Kyle Shanahan said, “I think we’ve made a lot of progress,” when asked if Evans Achilles soreness has calmed down. “Things go in the right direction. It’s something we’ve definitely got to be smart with. But we’re not going to, like, overly do it. We just want to wait until he’s healthy. He’s still working
his way to get there.”
As for Deebo, “He’s making progress. He can’t go today. I’d be surprised if he could go this week, but he’s making good progress.”
McCaffrey’s hamstring injury “wasn’t as bad as Deebo’s,” per Shanahan, who said CMC had a good week. “He’s not going today, but hopefully he’ll have a chance to be limited tomorrow.”
These players will be limited:
LB Garret Wallow (hamstring)
DE Nick Bosa (calf)
S Marques Sigle (ankle)
LB Luke Gifford (groin)
CB Upton Stout (shoulder)
WR Demarcus Robinson (ankle)
CB Nate Hobbs (abductor)
Bosa has made enough progress that he can participate in practice, which is a good sign.
Injured Reserve updates
Shanahan confirmed the 49ers are opening the practice window for Robinson and Hobbs. Robinson has been out since Week 2. Hobbs has been sidelined since mid-August.
Shanahan said, “I do,” when asked whether Robinson is close to returning. Robinson participated in a walk-through practice earlier this week, so the team will get to see him full speed later on Wednesday. The same is true for Bosa, Hobbs, and Sigle. “All those guys will be out there for the first time today.”
CJ West won’t practice this week. “We’ll probably hold him for another week. See where he is next week,” per Shanahan.
Shanahan said he “hasn’t thought about it yet,” when asked about De’Zhaun Stribling. “That’s a long ways away. I’m hoping he can return, first of all, which is the expectation. I’d be surprised if he didn’t.
And as he gets closer to running and stuff, kind of have an idea. Usually, once he’s a week away, start asking how he’s going to be in practice next week. If it’s kind of a build-up week or if he’s in a spot where he’s ready to go and we got to get him a couple of days to get ready to play. Still probably over a month away from that.”
