After 11 very successful years at Bayern Munich, Holger Seitz has left the club to go to partner club SpVgg Unterhaching. The manager joined in 2015 as a manager for Bayern’s youth teams and worked his way up the ranks, gaining admiration and plaudits for his outstanding work. He made it all the way up the ladder to the U-23s, where he would eventually get them promoted to the 3. Liga. Seitz was succeeded by Sebastian Hoeneß and took up a managerial position at the FC Bayern Campus.
Once Hoeneß and
his successor Martin Demichelis left Bayern’s second team for a more prestigious job, the Bavarians re-appointed Seitz for the position. They were counting on his consistency and longevity in the position. Unfortunately, Seitz’s football is far too defensive to truly fit Bayern’s style all that well and so he was replaced by Dante for 2026/27 season.
Bayern wished to retain Seitz due to how valuable his work in previous years was, but struggled to find a role for him amongst an upheaval at the academy. That is likely why Seitz has moved on and joined Regionalliga Bayern side SpVgg Unterhaching. There, he will be able to manage at the same level as he did with Bayern’s U-23s.
Bayern’s official website captured the words of Jochen Sauer, Bayern’s Director of Youth Development, as he wished farewell to Seitz: “Holger has contributed to the success story of the FC Bayern campus during his eleven years working in the youth academy. I would like to thank him again for that. He will now take over as head coach in Unterhaching. We wish him every success in this exciting challenge.”
Seitz himself had this to say: “I had a unique time at FC Bayern and am deeply grateful to the club. Now I’m looking forward to this great challenge in Unterhaching and to working with the team.”
BFW Analysis
This move increases the Bayer presence at Unterhaching. The two clubs have a youth development agreement, which, among other things, has seen the two clubs agree for Bayern to send up to three loanees to the club per season to get regular minutes. With Seitz and his many years of experience teaching young players at the helm in Unterhaching, such loan moves may become more valuable.
