The UFC’s first event in Serbia will be headlined by homegrown fighter Uros Medic, who takes on the always tough Daniel Rodriguez on August 1st.
The fight was initially announced by Marcel Dorff and confirmed by official UFC accounts soon after. This is the first five round main event for both Medic and Rodriguez.
Medic comes into this bout with a 13-3 record (7-3 UFC) and a three fight win streak, all first round knockouts. His last win in February was a big left hook KO of Geoff Neal that earned
him a $100,000 performance bonus and a No. 13 spot in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
Daniel Rodriguez is 20-5 in MMA (10-4 UFC) and is currently ranked No. 15. He’s also on a three fight win streak, but hasn’t competed since a July 2025 victory over Kevin Holland. In an ‘only in MMA’ type story, “D-Rod” then spent several months in a Mexican jail, which he attributes to crossing the border with a joint in his car.
We’ll see how Rodriguez bounces back from that experience, but it’s clear that the UFC has matched these two together to create some fireworks on the feet. After an iffy start in the UFC, Medic has become quite the finisher, and Rodriguez is all grit and willing to brawl with anyone.
While not confirmed at this time, the card will also feature another Serbian UFC fighter in Aleksandar Rakic, who is expected to face Marcin Tybura in a move to heavyweight. Former UFC light heavyweight Johnny Walker is also unofficially tied to UFC Belgrade, where reports have him moving up to heavyweight and facing Ante Delija.
The official card for UFC Belgrade on August 1st:
Uros Medic vs. Daniel Rodriguez
Jovan Leka vs. Max Gimenis
Vlasto Cepo vs. Gilbert Urbina
