Outgoings
Antony
Erik ten Hag’s star signing was anything but by the end of his time at United, but he appears to have found his new home after a successful loan spell at Real Betis. The Brazilian helped the Spanish side to the UEFA Conference League Final, and spent all summer with his agent looking for a move back to Seville.
The fee is £21.7m with a 50% sell-on clause going to United for any future move. It’s not what United were hoping for originally, but it does move a player off the books who had no future,
regardless of the manager.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho departs for another loan move, this time following former teammate Victor Lindelof on deadline day to Aston Villa.
Sancho hasn’t played for United since 2023, when a public falling out with former manager Erik ten Hag put him in the bomb squad. He spent loan spells at Borussia Dortmund in 2024 and Chelsea in 2024-25.
Sancho was a major signing in 2021, but his United career was quickly derailed by his relationship with ten Hag and the Reds have failed to move on from his big contract since then.
Harry Amass
Amass joins struggling former Premier League side Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan, putting him in the Championship for another year of experience playing professionally. Wednesday made headlines all summer due to some very worrying ownership moves for the club, leaving players without wages and their manager resigning shortly before the season.
This is not an ideal situation for the young fullback.
Rasmus Hojlund
Seemingly the beginning of the end for United’s Danish forward.
Hojlund will join former teammate Scott McTominay at Serie A champions Napoli for the season on loan, with an obligation for the Italian side to buy permanently should they finish in the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.
Hojlund made 95 appearances in two full seasons at United, scoring 26 goals for the club. He had a steep drop-off in production last year and looked even worse off playing under Ruben Amorim’s setup.
Ethan Williams
Williams featured early on in the Reds’ summer tour in Europe and the United States, and even scored a nice goal against Bournemouth, but will spend the next year on loan in Scotland with Falkirk.
Ethan Ennis
Another tour member who hasn’t gotten much of a look from Ruben Amorim, Ennis will join League Two side Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the season.
Incomings
Senne Lammens
Manchester United have a new goalkeeper at Old Trafford.
The Reds made a last-minute signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on Monday, joining for £18.2m. The 23-year-old shot stopper signed a contract through 2030, and presents an interesting alternative in goal with Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana still on the books.
Bayindir has started every Premier League match thus far with Onana returning to action in the League Cup against Grimsby Town. Neither player has looked confident or competent between the sticks for United, with both showing a weakness for attacking free kicks close to goal and mis-timing punches that have seen the Reds concede a remarkable three goals in four matches on set-pieces.
According to David Ornstein and Laurie Whitwell, the club was hoping to move on from Onana before bringing in a new goalkeeper, but that plan evaporated given the poor display of both goalkeepers already at the club.
