Yesterday, major news broke that the New Orleans Saints came to an agreement with star RB Alvin Kamara to keep him on the team for this season. After an offseason filled with questions about Kamara’s future and the Saints making moves that only emphasized the possibility of him being off the team, this is a positive conclusion.
One of the main reasons why Kamara’s future was even up in the air was his contract. With the Saints paying Travis Etienne in free agency, the team did not want Kamara to play
on his current (well, prior now) contract. Both sides wanted Kamara on the team; it was just the contract. Well, those numbers for Kamara’s new contract have been revealed, per Ian Rapoport.
Kamara’s previous contract was a bit of an interesting one after the Saints already used their cap gymnastics to open up more money this offseason. The original number of that contract was a two-year, $24.5 million deal that ended after the 2026 season.
A change to a base salary of $6 million is a significant drop for Kamara, but that just shows how willing he was to bounce back and play in this offense. Now, Kamara and Etienne will be a group that defenses will have to pay major attention to throughout the season, and it’s going to be exciting to see what this duo can do.
