Thursday night’s main event between Mary Spencer and Mikaela Mayer will now have three world titles on the line.
Spencer (10-2, 6 KO) was already set to defend her WBA super welterweight title against Mayer
(21-2, 5 KO), and the WBC and WBO have both added their vacant 154 lb belts to the fight.
Those titles were recently won by Cecilia Braekhus, who defeated Ema Kozin on October 4 in Norway. Braekhus then retired — as advertised beforehand — and apparently she truly means it and is giving up both world titles.
Instead of searching out anything else, both the WBC and WBO figure that Spencer vs Mayer is pretty much as big as it’s gonna get, so here we are.
Thursday’s show will take place in Montreal, promoted by Eye of the Tiger, and those in the U.S. can watch live on the Top Rank Classics streaming channel, as Mayer is still a Top Rank-promoted fighter, and Top Rank hasn’t had a TV deal in months. The streaming channel is available on Roku, Vizio, Pluto TV, and Tubi. It will be a free stream, no subscriptions necessary.
