It was a pretty good week to be a fan of Husker diamond sports. The softball team emphatically punched their ticket to Oklahoma City and the Women’s College World Series by sweeping their super regional against Oklahoma State. The men lost in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament to Oregon but still snagged a national seed to host a regional.
On an unrelated note, we got some rain in Nebraska this past week. If you are a follower of the Drought Monitor website and reports, you know it was sorely

Huskers blast Oklahoma State 9-1 to punch ticket to Women’s College World Series
Oklahoma State drew first blood in game two of its Super Regional matchup with Nebraska on Saturday, but in the late innings it was the Huskers who landed the knockout punch.

Nebraska claimed the super regional title in five with a 9-1 win after Oklahoma State took the lead in the first. The Huskers blew the lead wide open in the fifth, scoring seven runs.
Nebraska baseball chosen to host first regional since 2008
There will be Nebraska baseball in Lincoln this weekend, as the NCAA announced Sunday evening that Lincoln is one of 16 regional host sites for this year’s NCAA Tournament.

This year’s contest brought 750 4-H and FFA students to showcase their eye for land traits like surface texture, erosion and slope. Students from 32 states – including nearly every state in the central U.S. and as far away as Oregon and Florida – participated in the event.
