We already passed along one interested tidbit from a report on some big matches WWE has pencilled in for the remainder of the year. Here’s another.
It’s from the same source as that rumor about the Men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. That means it comes along with a plans change asterisk — whether you’re in the camp that calls that a crutch Meltzer and others who attempt to scoop wrestling storylines use, recognize it as something that everyone involved
in the business has said actually happens constantly for a multitude of reasons, or believe both things are true.
Anyway… as you can tell from the headline, the plan in question has to with John Cena’s opponent at Nov. 29’s Survivor Series event in San Diego. As far as we know, it will be Cena’s penultimate match before retiring after Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec. 13. And according to the WON, it will be against a hometown hero who’s currently a champ-champ. Back to Dave…
Dominik Mysterio is currently scheduled for an [Intercontinental] title defense against Cena, which would be his only remaining match on the schedule. He only has two other appearances, the 11/10 Raw in Boston and 11/17 Raw in Madison Square Garden. It’s unknown whether he’ll wrestle at those shows.
Cena’s opponent for the December match in Washington, D.C. is rumored to be Gunther. Dominik and Gunther are two guys WWE is counting on having in main events for the next five or so years in Der Ring General’s case, and the next 15-ish in Dirty Dom’s. Putting a big spotlight on them would be a fitting way for the loyal company man to go out, win or lose.
We’ll see if it happens. Until then, let us know what you think of the alleged plan.
