Newcastle United has been urged to accelerate its search for midfield reinforcements after a difficult summer window has left Eddie Howe facing major questions ahead of the new season.
The Magpies have already lost Sandro Tonali, who joined Tottenham in a deal worth up to £100 million (€116 million), while captain Bruno Guimaraes remains an Arsenal target and could still leave for the reigning champions.

international, Football FanCast’s Kelan Sarson urged the Magpies to do something quickly, as he believes the club cannot afford to hesitate as it looks to rebuild Howe’s midfield.
One player Sarson highlighted as a potential solution is Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, for whom Newcastle has reportedly submitted an already-rejected bid after Spurs signed Tonali earlier this summer.
Reports have suggested Newcastle discussed a package worth around £46 million (€53 million) for the Sweden international, although Tottenham has indicated it would require closer to £50 million (€58 million) to consider a sale. That said, the Magpies are reportedly uninterested in entering a bidding war.
Bergvall would fit Newcastle’s current recruitment strategy, arriving at just 20 years old while already having Premier League experience, as is Howe’s preference.
Despite having limited starts last season at Tottenham, Bergvall impressed for his age and even with a limited role, playing from deeper positions but moving forward into more advanced areas. Bergvall recorded one goal and three assists in 23 Premier League appearances.
Sarson argues Bergvall’s profile could make him a long-term successor to both Tonali and Bruno thanks to his energy, creativity, and versatility, all traits Newcastle values for their midfield players.
For now, the interest seems to be real, but it might take a huge offer to pry Bergvall off London.
