Girona’s sporting director Quique Carcel has described Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury as a “tragedy”
and has promised the club will do all they can to help him recover.Ter Stegen has only just joined Girona on loan from Barcelona but is set to undergo surgery on Friday on a torn hamstring, potentially ruling him out for months.
Carcel admits it’s a really difficult situation but says the club are ready to support Germany star through this difficult period.
“What happened with Ter Stegen is tough. You
sign a goalkeeper and then he gets injured; it was a tragedy,” he told reporters.
“It’s been reported that he’s returning to Barça. We signed Ter Stegen from Girona, on loan from Barça, and he’s under contract. We’ll make sure he recovers as best as possible, and we’re here to help him.
“He’s a good lad, and he’s shown excellent professional values in just 2-3 weeks with us. He had future plans that have been disrupted, and now we’re also concerned about Gazzaniga and Vlad being fully fit.”
Ter Stegen will go under the knife tomorrow, with an update expected afterwards to confirm how much time he’s expected to miss.
