New York Post | Mark Suleymanov: Most of the day Sunday was spent with increasing amounts of smoke swirling out of the Yankees’ and Marlins’ media beats, as a potential trade for right-hander Edward Cabrera
appeared to be under consideration. Cabrera will turn 28 in April 2026, with three more years of team control, and is coming off a breakout season that saw a 3.53 ERA and 3.83 FIP, good for a two-win season in albeit less than 140 innings. Landing a starter like Cabrera won’t come cheap, and the Yankees are expected to offer multiple high-ceiling prospects to attempt to grease the wheels.
NJ.com | Bridget Hyland: Paul Blackburn is back in Yankee pinstripes, and seems to be much happier about it. The righty reliever spent the last two seasons with the Mets, and made some pointed comments that seem to reinforce many of the clubhouse-related coverage we’ve seen around the boys in Queens this winter. Blackburn admits that the Mets clubhouse never seemed to mesh together without J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias, and drew a stark comparison between that and his experience with the Yankees.
New York Daily News: By now you’ve likely heard that the Yankees have inked veteran Paul DeJong to a minor league deal, with an invite to spring training. DeJong played in just 57 games for the Nationals last year, and while he didn’t hit worth a lick, he did see time at all four infield spots and provides some semblance of insurance should Anthony Volpe’s recovery take longer than expected.
MLB Trade Rumors | Mark Polishuk: Happy trails to Scott Effross, signing a minor-league deal of his own with the Tigers. After being dealt to the Yankees in 2022 (!) Effross never really got out of the starting block, battling Tommy John surgery, back issues, and a bad hamstring to throw just 26.2 innings over parts of four seasons in the Bronx. I hope he finds health in the Tigers’ system.
